This book made me laugh aloud repeatedly. It wasn't very realistic, but it was so well written and so humorous that totally enjoyed it. Both the H and h were wonderful characters, most of the side characters were also likeable. If you like steamy (and sex) there was plenty, but it didn't overshadow the plot or to be so lengthy as to become boring. I've never read this author before receiving the first of this series for free and I immediately bought the rest of this series. If her other books are as good as this one, I will definitely keep reading this author.

This was just such a beautiful story. Stigma and insecurity and conniving witches. I cried and laughed and fell in love with this book. Well done Patricia Grasso!!!!
First I have to say I have not cried that much over a story like this. I loved everything about it loved Victoria and her fight for a love of her man. I didn't like the way the men treated her but she was strong and fought for what she wanted. I fully recommend this book and I would love for all of you to read it. I love Patricia Grasso books and so would you.
I really enjoyed this book, not only was it a good, moving along story, more than once it had me laughing out loud. Any book that can do that deserves five stars!
There were a few funny moments in this, but overall, the inaccuracy of many of the period details, the anachronisms in the speech of the characters, and the sheer unlikelihood of any real human being ever behaving in some of those ways just made this a poor read for me. Some steamy sex, and if that's what you look for in a romance, you'll probably like it here - but I personally don't think much of stories that depend on instantly hot-and-horny teenage virgins rather than on a believable plot and realistic characters. Among the worst parts of the plot an extremely inaccurate depiction of dyslexia; a really stupid plot point involving an opera by Mozart which hangs on the /author's/ misunderstanding of how Mozart is pronounced as well as having the "heroine" refer to that composer in a way no 19th century person would have, not even a horny teenage virgin who had never been to the opera. Add in numerous inaccuracies in how peers are addressed by names and titles, so that every time someone talks to "Duke Magnus" one has to wince... just not that enjoyable. But again, if you like steamy teenage virgin sex, that part seems to be well done for what it is.
Living with dyslexia has always been a nasty struggle. Living with it prior to recent history must have been just horrible. This book continues the story of the Douglas sister's and those who love them. I continue to really like the Author and her characters.
Read this awhile back at the library and it always stuck with me. This is definitely a novel where you ache with the heroine who cannot read but is determined to be the best wife possible & make her husband proud. Of course, she's foiled by a bitter woman and her husband is too trusting of the bitter woman to realize that she's lied & wants to poison their relationship.
Spoiler alert At times the heroine seemed unbelievably naive and ignorant. The author attempts to portray her dyslexia by having her ignorant of some words knowledge equally educated terms. The hero is dismayed at her rashness and then acts just as impulsively and immaturely. The heroine’s self esteem is sacrificed to enable the dramatic courtroom scenes. It is implausible that a nineteen year old could recover from her public humiliation.
